September’s runaway favourite: proper Dorset lardy cake 🍂

September’s runaway favourite (proper autumn comfort) 🍂

As the mornings turn crisp and the autumn wind kicks up, comfort food stops being an afterthought and becomes an absolute necessity.

Looking back over the shop counter this past month, you clearly agreed—our runaway online bestseller for September was hands down the Traditional 6-Inch Evershot Lardy Cake.

Baked just up the road by Evershot Bakery, this is the real, nostalgic deal. Rich, moist, sweet, and sticky, it tastes like cold walks along the Bride Valley lanes and coming home to put the kettle on. It’s pure, uncomplicated Dorset baking heritage—grounded, comforting, and crafted with genuine care.

At £5.30, it’s an affordable luxury that feels like a warm hug on a grey afternoon.

How to enjoy it best:

• Slice it thick alongside a strong cup of tea.

• Pop a slice in the oven or toaster for two minutes so the sugars melt and turn gooey.

• Share it round the kitchen table (or keep the whole six inches to yourself—we won't judge).

Whether you're popping in to see us at the farm shop or ordering from the warmth of your sofa, you can pick one up fresh for the weekend:
